Change directory to a subdirectory of a network share

Post by Philip Newton »

At work, we have a network share that I do not have access to directly; however, I have access to a subdirectory (example: \\servername\share -> no access, but \\servername\share\subdir -> access OK).

With Windows Explorer, this works if I enter the complete path \\servername\share\subdir in the location bar or click on a link in an email.

However, when I use Shift+F7 in Altap Salamander RC3 and enter \\servername\share\subdir, I get an error message "5 Network error: Zugriff verweigert" (permission denied) for path \\servername\share.

Is it possible to make Altap Salamander change directly to a subdirectory of a network share, without changing to the top-level share first? Either by default or with a checkbox in the Shift+F7 dialog, like the "send path directly to plugin" checkbox?

What happen if you use a trailing backslash?
i.e. "\\sever\path\subdir\" instead of "\\sever\path\subdir"

Salamander can only map root of UNC paths now. I'll try to add support for mapping of subdirectories. Please let me know the type of your network drive (Novell Netware, Windows, etc.).

This particular machine is a Windows server (probably NT or 2000).

By the way, in case I was misunderstood, I don't need to map a drive letter to a subdirectory -- I'd like to use the UNC path to change the directory directly. It's OK if the top says \\servername\share\subdir\subsubdir instead of M:\subsubdir.

I have understood you well. I have just used inappropriate words, sorry.
