Its URL from addressbar in firefox (now 3.6, but also in earlier versions). it is (e.g.) address to web page. when I drag it and move over Salamander (file pane), an icon with "shortcut" appears, but by releasing nothing happens.
Usually (in explorer or TC) the shortcut is created after drag&drop.

Your Firefox is crashing when you drag&drop URL into Salamander?

I'm not able to reproduce this problem, shortcut is created on my system.

I have tried to disable all my addons in Firefox and made some changes of settings in Salamander (full row sellect, drag&drop delay,...), but nothing helped.

As I have written here. drag and drop from FireFox to Explorer or to TC works.
drag and drop from IE (ver.8) to Salamander is works too.

I'll confirm this.
Both with SeaMonkey 2.0.3 & FF3.5.3.

The URL link/shortcut is created in Salamander, but the browser then quits (crashes).

Here is the crash report, http://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/i ... 2532100301.

Ooops. Made an edit above, s/FF3.6/FF3.5.3/.

FF2.0 did not crash.
(Not in a position to test FF3.6 at the moment.)

FF3.6 does create the link & does not crash.

SeaMonkey 2.0.x & FF3.5.x are both in the same "Gecko" family, 1.9.1.
FF3.6 is Gecko 1.9.2 & FF2.0 is Gecko 1.8.1. FF3.0 is Gecko 1.9.0.

FF3.0 does create the link & does not crash.

:scratches head:

And now I'm not able to duplicate this in FF 3.5.3?
(Don't really want to try to crash my SeaMonkey at the moment.)

After observing the crash in both SeaMonkey 2.0.3 (the latest release) & also FF 3.5.3 I then looked at other FF versions:

FF 2.0.0.20
FF 3.0.x (not sure, possibly 3.0.15)
FF 3.6

None of which had a problem.

Then updated FF 3.0.x to 3.0.18, & FF 3.5.3 to 3.5.8.

Now I do not see the problem 3.5.8 (where I still would have expected a crash)?

Further reinstalling FF 3.5.3 & now that also does not crash?

I used the same (separate) Profiles for each (separate) FF version, so no changes in that respect.
Didn't particularly pay attention to extensions, but FF 3.5.x has an older version of NoScript, 1.9.8.71 & SeaMonkey has the latest version, 1.9.9.51. (Don't use FF at all except for testing.)

Computer is an old AMD Sempron 3000+ based system, 512 MB ram, XP SP3.

Bit the bullet & tried SeaMonkey again & now it too works without a problem - no crash?
(No changes at all except for the restart <from Session Restore> after the initial crash.)

I confirm the problem. AS 2.54 + FireFox 10.0.2 (but it happend with all other versions too).

Trying to create a shortcut by dragging the web site icon, which is next to the address bar in FF, to Altap Salamander panel does nothing. No crash at my PC, but no shortcut created either. Same thing works fine when using Internet Explorer.

I always do Shift+F3 to open explorer window, drag it there and then close - then it works, but it's ugly. I would be happy to hear any better workaround, as I store shortcuts in HDD folders instead of using "Favorites", so I need it often.

If you're not crashing, thinking you are seeing a different issue?

What OS?
Your FF, 32 or 64-bit?

Anything related in FF Error Console?

WFM, FF 10.0.2 & SeaMonkey 2.9a2 (aka FF 12).

My system is Vista Business 32 bit with SP2 and some recent updates. Nothing appears in the error console of the FF.
And I believe it's the same bug, just different behavior.

Some workaround would be great until it's fixed, because FireFox doesn't seem to have any other option of creating a shortcut (save link, copy or something). Or am I missing some hidden option?

Works on my Windows 7.

Are you running both AS and Firefox on the same elevation level (both or neither "As Administrator")? If the mouse arrow changes to a crossed circle, it's probable that Salamander is running elevated and Firefox isn't.

Excuse me late answer, I'm going to subscribe to this thread now to be notified...

I run them at the same level. UAC is disabled at my PC, both processes show same user (checked with Process Explorer), and sometimes Firefox is actually started by AS, ie. by running a *.url file, which you can see in the process tree. Still it never works for me.

The mouse cursor is a usual Windows cursor shown, when the shortcut is created, when dragged to AS panel, so it looks like it tries to accept the data.

A good thing is, it doesn't crash.
