Pop up window doesn't close
Pop up window doesn't close
Hi there
Lately I'm having a strange error that is a little annoying... lots of times I have to close and reopen AS.
Anyway on some occasions the "Listing path" popup windows shows and there is no way to close it.
Now panel already got the new list in it, but the window is still there. You can also press the x button,
but the windows still wouldn't close.
So close/reopen gets it.
That is it.
Peace
Waldemar

Re: Pop up window doesn't close
Hi Waldemar, did you experience this problem on different drives or just on G: ?
Is it possible there is some file or directory changing in the current directory?
The G: drive is the local hard drive?
It can be some hardware problem with your computer, Salamander is trying to enumerate directory, but system is not responding. Are you disks OK?
Another option is some problem with Windows drivers or low level software such as antivirus. Did you install something like it recently?

Hi Jan
I'll take more notice on this under which circumstances this happens... will get back.
Also now that you mentioned it... maybe it's really happening just on external disks.
Best regards
Waldemar

Re: Pop up window doesn't close
Hi
For right now as it seams it happens on lots of evens and it's not related to external disks.
It can happen even when opening packaged files on main disk.
I still need to record exactly at which events it happens, but if you do a copying after that the display disappears.
Now as I'm a long, long time AS user and this was never happening before I assume it's BitDefender's fault as it's the only change that happened lately on the machine.
Anyway will record exact events and then I'll try to recreated them when BitDefender will be uninstalled.
Peace

Re: Pop up window doesn't close
Hi Waldemar, thank you for the update. Please let us know...
Re: Pop up window doesn't close
I've uninstalled BitDefender and used OS for two weeks and the problem is still there.
Also tested every strange thing and it's not related to usb disk, network stuff... or anything else.
One way to get the effect is to press "Calculate directory sizes" on a big directory, so that "Reading directory.." popup is shown.
And once it's there it stays there even if I press Close button.
Now I didn't have this problem ever since the 1.5 version, so I'm sure it must be something related to Win 7 x64 or there is a program who is filtering some messages.
Do you want that I make some other tests?
Peace

You should look at the frozen instance with Process Explorer (or Process Monitor) and inspect the thread stacks. You should be able to see what is causing the freezes.Waldemar wrote:Do you want that I make some other tests?

Hmm... that ammemb.dll is suspecious... it's part of the Actual Mulitiple Monitors program.... that could definitely influence the windows.... will uninstall and we'll see.

Re: Pop up window doesn't close
Yep it's AMM... as soon as I've installed the AMM back on the popup stayed on the screen.
Now I'll contact AMM stuff and we'll see how to fix this.
... another bug found.

Re: Pop up window doesn't close
And yet another proof of Salamander's innocence and stability...

Re: Pop up window doesn't close
Innocent.
) Until now salamander never penetrated my disk.
)
Anyway I've contacted the AMM support and they said I should put the popUp into exclusion list and it worked perfectly.
So another mystery solved.
A big thanks Ether... you got the right idea.
