FTP Client: How to edit files located on FTP directly ?

Post by woo73 »

Hello,

I have tried to edit a selected file that is located on an FTP server.
It seems that it is only possible to view (F3) them. The function key F4 Edit is deactivated.

I don't want to copy the files to local drive before edit them.
Is there any chance to edit them directly ?

Thanks a lot,

Sorry ? I want to apologize for that question
I think it is a Troubleshooting question ?
Maybe I have to apologize for my bad English also.

I am testing TotalCommander, SpeedCommander and Altap Salamander.

TotalCommander and SpeedCommander provide the possibility to connect to an FTP-Server.
Afterwards you can edit an specific file that is located on the FTP-Server by pressing "F4 Edit".

After editing the file and closing the editor, the TotalCommander or SpeedCommander saves the temporary file back to FTP.

I didn't find out how to realize this with Altap Commander.
The Edit button is deactivated.
I'm using the Demo version 2.5.

Apologize once again and 100 times more.

These programs support the direct editing of FTP files:

- TotalCommaner
- SpeedCommander
- Directory Opus
- Magellan Explorer

In other respects the handling & look and feel of the Altap Salamander ist the best.

So please, help me :?

Question is OK.

Unfortunately Salamander doesn't support Edit command on file system plugins. We plan to implement it.

Edit command in archives works fine.

Hello Jan,

thanks a lot for the response.
When do you want to realize the implementation ?
If this feature is available so I have to buy the Salamander :D

Salamander is the only commander which simulates TotalCommander Mouse-Compatibility perfectly.

I suggest, you allways create a Poll, so you will atleast know what forum users think... Why not use a feature which is already here?
