RC3 installation problem

Post by QuaySo »

While installing RC3 on my system, I get an error:

Error creating file: C:\docume~1\Arno\Locals~1\Temp\SFX11.tmp\plugins\salamext.dll

Only when I choose to skip this file, the installation wil complete. I tried it serveral times, even after rebooting te system. Did anyone else notice this same behaviour? After installation, Altap Salamander seems to work correctly, but I haven't had time to test it intensively.

Sorry, I should have written that in my post. It is WinXP SP2 (Dutch edition)

I had the same error (I was planning to reboot later to try again, though that Salamander seems to work fine like that), on a XP SP2 in English.

Please make sure no online scanner (anti virus ...) is interfering. Please state waht scanners (or virtualizers) are installed on your system, even if turned off during install.

Also make sure you clean out your temp folder and you have full access rights to your temp folder.

My virusscanner is not interfering. It is NOD32. I'm quite sure I have full access to the temp folder, because my account has administrative rights. When installing Altap Salamander, the files from the setup are extracted to the temp folder. I tried to copy the file manually from the temp folder, but it wasn't possible. The file is in use by the installer.... I noticed it is a newer version of the DLL (1.2.3 in stead of 1.2.0). Any change to have the correct version on my system?

I encountered the very same error. Ignored it, RC3 setup completed successfully.

Haven't tested everything to see what functionality (if any) I am missing because of it.

I am beeing confused now. The path given in the error message, isn't this the temporary folder? From what you say, the file was extracted. But where to then?
You tried to copy it somewhere. Where to? What exact error message did you get then? Are you sure "the file" is in use by the installer? "The file" is the one in the temporary folder?
Did you install to a new folder or did you try to install over RC2?

I already wrote a bug report for this error in the czech part of the forum.

This happens only while you install the new version in to the existing installation folder.
The salamander shell extension is not unloaded prior installation, so the installer cannot overwrite the old file.
Altap has to fix this.

From the final version Altap Salamander 2.5 it is not possible to overwrite old version of Salamander. You should install to another directory.

We will work on this issue to allow "overwrite/upgrade" install in the future versions.
