Permission error on Windows2003 share

Post by Guest »

I can no longer access the Ctrl-P Permissions on my Windows2003 server although it works locally. An old install of 2.5 beta that has been updated to RC2 still works but not any new installs. The error is "The request is not supported."

Any ideas?? As a network admin I manage file permissions all the time and this was one of my favorite features of your software.

Thanks for any help.

So the same Salamander 2.5RC2 works on some computers?
We didn't change this code for several years, it is strange.

That's correct. I have a 4-yr-old WinXP that has been updated over time to SP2, while also upgrading Salamander from version 2.0 (maybe earlier).

After a little testing I believe that I've resolved the problem, however -- fwiw. The "old" PC is logged in locally and maps the share as \\servername\sharename, which works. When logged into the domain this type of drive map gives the aforementioned error.

I am able to get it to work if I use a DFS entry for the same resource, which is good enough for me. I'll just remap all of my drives. Note: I didn't thoroughly cross-check this but so far this behavior seems consistent.

Hopefully, others will have the DFS option -- I'm lucky enough to be able to create new DFS entries as needed. Maybe this additional info will trigger some ideas with the programmers.

Update - I spoke too soon about the DFS entry. Turns out that for some crazy reason it only works when I use the full UNC or DFS path but will NOT work if I map either to a drive letter!

This is kindof a bummer since the drive letters are easier and more plentiful than the 10 Hot Paths. Oh well, maybe this will get fixed in some future version. I hate to complain as this is otherwise a fantastic product.

Keep up the good work.

Is it possible, that you already have some connection established but with different credentials?
