Keep selection when using ALT + <--

I sometimes sit in a folder and start selecting sub-folders, but then want to check what is in a particular sub-folder. If I click this new folder and view its contents, then go back (using ALT and Left Arrow) my selection is lost. It would be great if the selection is kep when using ALT and Left Arrow. I am not too worried about the selection being kept when I use the "parent folder" link though, as I do not want persistent selections (they get confusing).
