Using Panel archiver for Archives with unusual extensions

Post by SvA »

Is there any way to browse an archive with a non standard extension on a per instance basis, without permanently associating it's extension with the archiver in the Archives Associations in Panels?

This was handy for files like OpenOffice documents, virtual software packages (Altiris SVS .vsa), Mozilla extensions (.xpi)... It might even be possible to browse self extractable archives like the 7-Zip file manager does.

We miss this feature too, it is already listed at ALTAP Roadmap: http://www.altap.cz/salam_en/newver.html#roadmap

Ctrl+PgDn for opening self extract archives or unassociated archives.

It will work like the View (Edit) With command (Ctrl+Shift+F3): the context menu will be displayed with available un-archivers.

 Sorry! I should not have relied on my memory of the Roadmap.

Workaround:
  1. Define your favourite (Un-)Packer as a Viewer / Editor under configuration (My suggestion: Portable 7-zip)
  2. Navigate to the file with the non standard extension
  3. Use your Keyboard: CTRL+SHIFT + F3 or CTRL+SHIFT + F4 (View with / Edit with)
  4. Select the external Viewer / Editor

8)
Kind regards, KNUT
