I'd like to be able to to Remotelly thru WinSCP Edit a file. This is possible with WinSCP so why not in Servant Salamander?
Today I can View but not Edit so to Edit I need to first copy the file locally, Edit it locally and then copy it back to the Remote site. This is not practical for me.

Hi,
I'm evaluating SS2.5 and I use the WinSCP plugin a lot. I'm really missing the edit function for remote files and found this post on the forum. As the topic started said, this is available in WinSCP itself....
According to the post date this has been an issue for quite some time. Will this be implemented in the near future? This function is kinda crucial for me for the decision to buy SS and keep using it.

I saw the roadmap, and indeed it's on the "upcomming release" list. I'm continuing the evaluation because I really like the rest of the functions of Salamander, but this functionality really could have been the "icing on the cake". I'm really impressed by the program, but I'm a bit sceptical if the functionality really will be in there. The original post is from July 2006, and this has been on the "to-do list" since then. That's either a really long list, or the development speed is really slow, or the feature is not coming at allomega wrote:"Edit command is currently not supported by filesystem plugin interface. It's on my to-do list. I hope to add this in version 3.0."
If you are lucky it will be available in v3, so are you going to keep using it if you have to wait a long time for this edit function?

Nevertheless I really like the program and maybe I will buy the 2.* version. If the remote filesystem functionality will keep bothering me I will look for an alternative, and keep an eye out on v3, that's hopefully going to be released soon (open beta? ).

Regards.
Re: WinSCP Remote Edit
So, is this coming? Not using Solaris that much anymore but now it's a few MAC OSX boxes, some Ubuntu servers and a lot of Red Hats servers. Strange that I as a Windows guy work so much with *NIX boxes. Anywho, I'm really looking forward to this feature to be added!!! Please, pretty please add it!omega wrote:"Edit command is currently not supported by filesystem plugin interface. It's on my to-do list. I hope to add this in version 3.0."

Re: WinSCP Remote Edit
I am also interested in remote editing with the winscp plugin.
I usually edit windows files docx, pptx etc. located on an Ubuntu server.
This works beautifully in WinSCP by associating file extensions with the respective editing programs.
I intend to buy Altap Salamander when this is in place.
