Import RC2 configuration to RC3
I found another way:
Export configuration, goes to config_.reg
Edit config_.reg to:
change all 'Servant Salamander' to 'Altap Salamander'
change all 'RC2' to 'RC3'.
Rename to config.reg.
Remove RC2, install RC3.
It should pick up the new config.
I agrre that there should be a simpler way 'Import Configuration'

Solution 1: Install the new version of Salamander first and run it. Then uninstall old Salamander.SelfMan wrote:I assume that we won't need this for the final version.
Solution 2: Import your old configuration (backup) into registry before you install the new version of Salamander.
In both cases your old configuration will be imported properly.
Solution 3 (if you already run new version): Delete configuration key for new version, then continue according to Solution 2.

I allways install to the same folder...Jan Rysavy wrote:Solution 1: Install a new version of Salamander first. Then uninstall old Salamander.SelfMan wrote:I assume that we won't need this for the final version.

So the only culprit is the salamext.dll (Shell Extension for Altap Salamander) as I mentioned in the bugreport.
More about Import Configuration Settings from RC2 to RC3
Both Jan Rysavy's and Krzysztof's (this thread) solution work well.
I made a bunh of mistakes because I hadn't seen these posts, so
here's my additional experience:
1. Go to the website and download RC3 ... be sure to accept the
two (2) RC3 install "boxes" --- click on the squares to IMPORT
the keys (REGISTRATION info) and configuration from RC2.
This automated solution worked JUST FINE with no effort!

2. If you use Krzystof's solution, Salamander will ALWAYS reload
config.reg when you call up Salamander. You may very much
want to freeze your choices, so config.reg is perfect. However,
if you tweek the configuration periodically, the tewwk-changes
will be for the session only. To remain flexible, leave the name
in RC3 as config_.reg !
I left RC2 as a fear-factor backup and installed RC3 into its
new default directory. They worked fine in tandem.
Suggested sequence:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Backup System State and C:\Program Files
- Activate RC2
- Select Options
- Select Save Configuration
- Select Export Configuration
- Close RC2
- Access the RC2 directory. Default location is
C:\Program Files\Servant Salamander 2.5 RC2
- Edit config_.reg in the Root directory
- Save to config_RC2.reg as a backup
- Use the REPLACE ALL function to change
from Servant Salamander RC2
to Altap Salamander RC3
- Save to config_RC3.reg
- Exit edit program
- Download RC3 from the Altap website
- Copy keys.zip from the RC2 directory
into the new RC3 directory. Default is
C:\Program Files\Altap Salamander 2.5 RC3
- Copy config_RC3.reg from the RC2 directory
into the new RC3 directory.
- Rename from config_RC3.reg to config_.reg
- Activate the RC3 version
- Select "Help" then "Import Registration Keys"
- Open the keys.zip file (which is the same
between all 2.5 releases)
- Your configuration from RC2 is now used by RC3
- Enjoy a great Salamander proram!
