Since AutoCAD 2026, Salamander 4.0 crashes when double-clicking with the left mouse button or right-clicking on a file with the .dwg extension.
It can be temporarily fixed by replacing the library AcShellExtension.dll (659,800 B) in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AsShellEX\ with the version from AutoCAD 2025 (645,400 B), and then, if necessary, correcting the file association.
Will the developers try to fix this, or is the product already considered dead (the issue with viewing .csv files was never fixed either)?
Crash on .dwg
Re: Crash on .dwg
You can improve the Salamander yourself. If you need new dwg functionality you can either do it your self as Salamander has been opensourced on github https://github.com/OpenSalamander/salamander or pay someone to do it for you.
Re: Crash on .dwg
So, the problem is with that shell extension, not with Altap Aalamander. You should contact Autodesk support.ims wrote: 24 Aug 2025, 18:32It can be temporarily fixed by replacing the library AcShellExtension.dll (659,800 B) in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\AsShellEX\ with the version from AutoCAD 2025 (645,400 B), and then, if necessary, correcting the file association.
There is more info related to problems with shell extensions and Salamander to be found on this forum, including the reason why altap did not change anything regarding this, insisting it is up to the providers of the faulty shell extensions.
