Pane Synchronization

Post by phearinc »

Quite often, I need traverse two different branches at one time. ex:

c:\projects\project1_1.00\src\com\company\project\bizmodel\employee
c:\projects\project1_1.01\src\com\company\project\bizmodel\employee

What i'd like, would be a way to navigate one pane to c:\projects\project1_1.00 and another pane to c:\projects\project1_1.01, then lock both panes, and thne when I drill down in one pane, have it "follow" me on the other pane. Otherwise, I have to drill down in both panes, sometimes through 5 or 6 subfolders, and it's a bit tedious.

Really a very special issue. In the #Roadmap there are some features that might be interesting for you:
- Tabbed browsing (I tested this feature in an other file commander then ss, and I think it is a big thing)
- Synchronize directories command.
- Structured and unlimited Hot Paths
(o.O) -(@.@)- (/o.O\) ,,,`Q´,,, {~.~} (^.^)

Cool idea 8) but not a high priority for me!
Kind regards, KNUT

That's exactly what I need. The new features mentioned in the roadmap are nice, but don't help me, if I want to navigate through the same folder structure in both panels.

To find differences between two folder structures, I use Kdiff3 (http://kdiff3.sf.net), which has a really powerful directory comparision function.

No, it's not! This is a common task, if you have to integrate source code from externel programmers into your company's code. Automatic synchronization or merging normally doesn't help you in this case.

So there should be others waiting for this feature. Please, write a quick note here to give this feature more priority.

I agree, this is not a specialized issue. Nearly all web developers keep a mirror of the files locally and the directory structure is usually identical. There is no reason to force the user to double click each directory in both panes while traversing indentical structures.

WinSCP supports this feature and calls it Synchronized Browsing. It is a mind-bogglingly useful feature and I hate living without it. Add this to Servant Salamander and I'll be a customer for life.
