Separate scrollbars for folders and files

Post by JohnFredC »

Some of the folders I work with have both many sub folders AND many files in them.

It would be convenient if each Salamander file pane could be divided into two panes via a moveable splitter: the upper one for folders only and the lower one for files only. Each pane would have its own scroll bars and (perhaps) its own column layout.

This feature would be optional and and its state stored per folder.

Yes there are implementation design/decision issues regarding sorting/filtering, etc. when the "divided" pane is displayed, but I thought to open a discussion to see if anyone else would be interested in such a feature.

I can't think of any circumstances where I would want to use this. If I needed to have files and folders in view at the same time, I'd use left and right panes.

My suggestion for something which probably relates to this is to have a quick way to toggle a pane between file'n'folder view and a directory tree view (as in Explorer). This view could even replace the change directory dialog. File operations to the other pane would work with the focused item in the tree.

My intent is not to duplicate explorer. The tree view is not (by default) connected to the other pane.

Sounds cool, but not really necessary for me...
Kind regards, KNUT
