REQST: Show Column Headers in Thumbnail View
REQST: Show Column Headers in Thumbnail View
Switching to thumbnail view hides the columns headers, making it less convenient to sort the view.
Please leave the column headers visible (and enabled) when showing thumbnails.

Re: REQST: Show Column Headers in Thumbnail View
Maybe nice idea, but very unsystematic. The behavior of SS is the same as in the Explorer. Only detail view has the columns headers. So not only thumbnail view hides the columns headers, but every other view than detail view hides them as well.JohnFredC wrote:Switching to thumbnail view hides the columns headers, making it less convenient to sort the view.

For sorting of panel content you can use:
- keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+F3, Ctrl+F4, Ctrl+F5, Ctrl+F6)
- left, right menu
- or you can add to toolbar buttons "Sort by Name", "Sort by Extension", "Sort by Size", "Sort by Date", which give you even feedback what sorting method is chosen

Yes, but are those all the columns we'll ever have in Salamander? I hope not because if they are, I'll eventually have to switch to another filer.keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+F3, Ctrl+F4, Ctrl+F5, Ctrl+F6)

The Explorer paradigm isn't the only one that works, or we wouldn't have Salamander.

May I direct you to this image:

No, please don't call me "Windows XP Explorer Paradigm Forever" AdvocateJohnFredC wrote:Not in my book, but jis seemed to think so.That's a very good reason

I must apologize to you, because I misunderstand your very short first post, as a feature request from someone who didn't know well difference and limitations between various views in SS

In the ALTAP Roadmap there is this item: "Custom panel columns (parsers for EXIF, MP3 bitrate, Access Time, etc.)". So we will have much more columns in SS then we have now, so your request is clever and relevant in this context.
I think that my third hint helps a little just now in actual beta 11 that still has a limited number of columns.

I publish better solution right here in my previous post. If you add to your toolbar buttons "Sort by Name", "Sort by Extension", "Sort by Size", "Sort by Date", they give you:omega wrote:Temporary solution first sort in detailed view then switch to thumbnails mode.
But ofcourse having the sorting options (column headers) in thumbnail mode is a smart idea.
1) possibility to sort by clicking on them
2) graphic feedback (pressed button effect) what sorting method is chosen in active panel
I think that John only point for us that even MS will re-engineering Explorer in Windows Vista in similar way as he described... Nobody here was talking about switching to windows exploreromega wrote:Guys we are SS fanboys aren't we? Don't give us strange ideas of switching to windows explorer JohnMS makes lousy choices lol
