Custom keyboard shortcut assignments

Post by helig »

I would appreciate a possibility to assign custom keyboard shortcuts for menu items (additionally or to replace an existing one).

For example, I'd like to have SHIFT+F6 do the same as F2 (quick rename).
I think that's not possible now, is it?

However, I'd ask for at least duplication of existing shortcuts for operations related to copying filename or path into clipboard - there is Ins key used and this key is not really useful on the new MS keyboards as it is joined with PrtScn key - they cannot be used at the same time and I use PrtScn key quite often...
Therefore, an alternative for the Ins key in these operations would be great.

I can't stand this Microsoft keyboard "layout" and I hope it will not spread further. How could they throw away shortcuts such as Insert, Ctrl+Insert, or Shift+Insert? Which key will be missing next year?

OK, thank you for this idea, added to our todo list.

Btw: why do you use such keyboard? I undestand that in a corporate environment users often have no choice...

This keyboard is otherwise very good and robust, the only thing I don't like is this PrtScn and Insert combination...

Thanks for adding this into plan - if it is added into next beta it'll be VERY good since this is the only thing I need to convert my colleague in the office to use Servant Salmander and put the Total Commander away :D

I like Microsoft's keyboards (and mouses). There are models that have standard layout including the "Insert" key.

I know but the thing is that we already have 5+ such keyboards in our office and until now we didn't use Ins key for anything (until I found this feature in Servant Salamander :) ...

Myrek, do you know about these shortcuts?

Alt+E,O = Alt+Insert = Copy Name + Path as Text
Alt+E,X
Alt+E,H
Alt+E,N

(Oops, I found a bug in SS menu: you must release the Alt before you press the second character. Going to fix it.)

Nice workaround :)
I think the best solution would be to incorporate PrtScn key as a duplicate for Ins key in these operations - e.g. Ctrl+Alt+PrtScn would work the same as Ctrl+Alt+Ins.
It would then be totally independent on the current setting of the MS Natural keyboard...

Don't forget that Prnt Scrn and Alt + Prnt Scrn is used as system wide shortcuts for snapshotting screens and windows.

Do you know a program called AutoHotkey? ( www.autohotkey.com ). You can re-assign keyboard shortcuts with that either globally or program dependant. AutoIt is another similar program.
