Win7 - Closing Salamander and save config problem

Hi,

2.52 works perfect in WIN 7 when running, but when I close Salamander and it's saving the Configuration to the registry,
this takes extremly long time. (up to a minute). I have the same behavior on a Notebook with Win 7 also.
With Vista or XP I don't/didn't have these problems.
Reinstallation with a cleaned registry doesn't affect this problem.

Does somebody have seen the same behaviour?
Any help is welcome.

Michael, what happen when you start Salamander and choose the Options > Save configuration command? Does it take a minute too?

We are testing Salamander on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 and didn't see such slowness.

Hi,

yes it's the same as when I close it.
So i did'nt mention it. I have Win 7 64 bit professional and Win 7 32 bit Home premium.

On Vista Ultimate 64 and XP absolute no problem.

Are you using Administrator or Standard user accounts?
When you start Salamander "As Administrator" (right click the Salamander shortcut), is it slow too?

Is the Saving configuration... progress bar displayed while Salamander is frozen? Does it indicate some progress?

it does not care if i start as admin or as user.

Whene i close AS the savin config dialog appears immediately and it needs about 15 seconds until the progress bar begins working. Then it needs between 30 and 45 seconds until the progressbar is complete.

In this time AS needs about 25% CPU on a Quad Core.
I've checked the software running on both machines.

On both machines there is KIS 2010 (9.0.0.736) and Google Desktop running. Removing Google doesn't affect the behaviour. The same when i disable KIS.

This is the only software running on both machines. I've made a log with processmonitor. Do you need that (2 MB RAR-File)? So give me an eMail Adress.

If you boot into Safe Mode, does the delay persist?

Have CTFMON.EXE running as a process by chance? If so, kill it & see if that makes a difference.
(I'll take a jab at ctfmon.exe every chance I get .)

- no ctfmon running
- no othere spyware defense software
- in SAFE-Mode AS has it#s old speed and closes immediately

so I will uninstall KIS for testing again and will keep you informed.

Got it.

KIS 2010 Ver. 9.0.0.736 is the bad boy. After removing KIS AS got it's old speed when closing.

So I have to check out what to do. Removing KIS and using another product or livin with this problem and keep AS most time open.

Maybe ALTAP can contact Kaspersky to analyse the coexistence of AS and KIS 2010.

Thank you for this information. Because Salamander is doing nothing wrong or special, there is great probability your other software will be slowed-down too. Salamander has a little bit bloated configuration (~400KB in Registry) so it could be more pronounced.

Note: Another problematic software from the same boat is Norton 360, see here: http://forum.altap.cz/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3508
So don't switch to it

What works fine is ESET Smart Security and NOD32.

I had the same problems with KAV 2010 Ver. 9.0.0.736 - closing altap salamander took about 15seconds. I solved this by disabling the self-defense in KAV:

-open the main application window
-in the right upper corner click the Settings link
-in the left part of the Settings window select the Options item
-in the right part of the window uncheck Enable Self-Defense
