Just registered this great tool.

I was wondering if there is a printable manual for Altap Salamander preferable in pdf format?

Thank you.

There's CHM format in AS installation folder. Same as http://altap.cz/salam_en/help_index.htm. But it's as separate pages, so without any additional steps it cannot be printed easily.

There are some tools which can convert the chm to pdf.
Just google for chm2pdf and you'll get some to see.

Since it's that easy I would expecting the developers to actually do this. The advantage of a pdf manual is that it is easily printable and not the format itself in electronic form.

I like to have a printed manual of products I register. It so nice to actually study the manual while not in front of the PC like reading a magazine.

Yes, printed manuals are much better for reading than on-screen help files or PDF. But I'm afraid that they have mostly died out by now for reasons of cost.

I have been using WordPerfect Office for many years, which is not exactly small and inexpensive software compared to Salamander.

Yet going from version 7 to 8, and finally 13, the paper documentation shrank from three substantial manuals plus an introduction to the introduction only.

When even big companies economize like that, we cannot really expect Altap to spend money on printed manuals.

My suggestion is that you download this free CHM-Decoder http://www.gridinsoft.com/chm.php , and decompile Salamander's helpfile. Once you have the HTML source, you can extract the information you need, edit it any way you like, and print the results with your browser.

Yes, you are right.

But two of the biggest rivals of Altap Salamander have excellent manuals for printing: Directory Opus and xplorer2. Having said that the biggest doesn't have either: Total Commander. ;-)
