Does the FTP Plugin support Mode Z compression?

Post by dcarpenter97 »

In case I'm missing it somewhere. If not, is it in the plan? I use Salamander for so much, and I hate to have to run a secondary FTP client just to take advantage of compression.

Thanks!

Hi, we have no plans regarding Z compression for FTP client right now.

Does anyone else need it?

Question is, how many servers support this feature...
Other things
- images are already compressed
- html files are small even with meny... no big deal
- broadband...

I know there are several FTP servers that support it...

And for anyone that transfers anything other than web pages, compression can offer huge gains in time and bandwidth savings. The average Excel sheet or Access database can compress by 80%. I use Salamander for EVERYTHING, have for years, but i have to switch over to SmartFTP whenever I need to move stuff to servers. Of course files could be zipped beforehand, but that creates extra steps both on the upload and download/reuse.

Aside from that, I believe that Salamander is the single greatest piece of utility software ever created! I wish i had a dollar for every user I've introduced it to! :D
