In my experience, the general public will not find this behavior acceptable. Perhaps some other approach to protecting Salamander's configuration would be advisable. I fully agree. In my oppinion, you are trying to cast out the devil by Beelzebub. I immediately disabled this option when it first ap...

If you have the drive change icon in the pannel toolbar you can right click it to get at the options you desire.

I agree, though, thah the options should be in the pannel background context menu.

@ guest: you might want to have a look at Windows' Disk Management console while your camera is plugged in. You might be able to assign a drive letter . There is no way to assign drive letter for PTP. See for example this http://forums.techguy.org/digital-photography-imaging/456683-kodak-easy-share...

Drag'n'Drop on User Menu Toolbar

SS 2.5 RC1 I found some problems dropping files on User Menu Bar icons. 1. A program that is defined using a variable (e.g. $(SysDir)\notepad.exe) does not accept files dropped on it. 2. Any options defined for the program are ignored when a file is dropped on it. I'd expect Salamander to replace th...

Finally, the possibility to pass the list of selected items is great, but... not available for the Editors configuration! I'd like to be able to invoke for instance "TextPad.exe $(ListOfSelectedNames)" so that when I press F4, I open all selected files in TextPad... Yes, I'd like to see t...

How are you adding the file to the archive? Using the pack dialog, or copying to a pannel with the opened archive? Dependent on how you do it, different configuration options do apply. I hardly ever use the pannel mode. With an external packer launched from the pack dialog, the packer starts in a mi...

There is absolutely no way to reliably judge from content whether a file is text. You can quite reliably judge some files to be binary, though.

Binary transfer is lossless, text transfer is lossy. So if in doubt, the transfer agent should use binary transfer.

Merging .mp3-files with a standard wave editor like Audacity will cause loss of quality since the files need to be encoded anew. There exist tools which are specialised in joining .mp3 files without the need of re-encoding. One such too is Direct MP3 Joiner . (This is not a recommendation. I never h...

Thank you, AbteriX, for your suggestion. I did not mean CLSIDs, but, as I wrote it, CSIDLs. These are used in Windows API to access special shell folders. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/shellcc/platform/shell/reference/enums/csidl.asp With these you can access t...

What operation system are you running and how are you writeing to your CD-RW disks? I strongly suspect this to be an issue with the OS or the file system (-driver) on the CD or even how your CD writer SW does things. I remember a similar issue with multy session CDs (looking at them through Windows ...

You cannot buy the beta version anyway. You need to buy the 2.0 version and with it you get the free update for 2.5 on top. Moreover, software is generally marked beta because there is expected to be bugs (more than are unavoidable, but bugs, which ought to be found before the software is ready for ...

Environment variables was great, but only half a solution. Many folders canot reliably be specified by using environment variables, thus we need CSIDL constants too. See Disconnect network drive in the Problems and Troubleshooting forum for an example.

Hi Peter,

since this path is user configurable (see manison's post above), the best (most flexible and versatile) solution in my oppinion was to allow to use environment variables and CSIDL constants in that configuration field.
