Re: Http: File Download Manager
I use the Total Commander proxy plugin in concert with a free TC file system plugin called HTTPBrowser. HTTPBrowser displays a list of files at a user-specified URL in one of the Salamander file panels. You can use a mask to select the files you want from the site and then copy them to the other Sal...

Re: Support for Windows 7 Libraries feature
Hi Jan You wrote: it is the same view you get with AS Find (when you search several directories for *.*). I think most users add files to Libraries in an ad hoc manner... that is, a file here, a file there. The intention isn't for some sort of automated categorization (not "all jpgs", for ...

Re: Support for Windows 7 Libraries feature
Users will end with several files with same name, unable recognize the right one, unable to select such files to group and copy/move/upload/pack it elsewhere. It looks confusing to me.... This is a misconception shared by many. Libraries are like virtual folders... or intelligent search sets: no du...

Re: Support for Windows 7 Libraries feature
A band-aid for people who do not know how to properly organize their files in a hierarchical system of directories, so they more easily find their files again. I encounter this attitude all the time, typically expressed by network/server systems personnel whose purpose in life is to identify and ma...

Re: Comparison & staying Up-to-date
Salamander's advantages are speed and stability plus (IMO) a more rational approach to the UI and esp. to popup dialog design (I'm always in favor of more dialog functionality as opposed to less). Unfortunately such subtle things are not conducive to tabular comparisons between softwares. The Altap ...

Re: Unicode
I've been there: between a rock and a hard place. My recommendation has always been to upgrade/switch environment first! Then any new development effort only occurs once.
Thank you for clarifying the issues, it is a good policy to be honest with the user community about these kinds of things.

Re: Srovnání AS vs. TC
I read these posts in translation... (A complaint about the default font used in the TC file panels? I mean really! Give me break. Change it and forget about it!) Salamander is an excellent, excellent product. I have been a registered user for many years. Salamander is extremely rationally designed ...

Re: 2.53 beta 1: Can't sort Type column
Ah, OK. "By design" would definitely be the wrong phrase, then. As a developer myself, however, it surprises me that the Salamander code doesn't call a generic column sort method that simply uses the contents of the column and is enabled for all columns. You know: Columns .Sort(Direction) ...

Re: 2.53 beta 1: Can't sort Type column
By design? That means intentional.
Why would you seek to prevent a user from sorting by the value of any column in the file list?

2.53 beta 1: Can't sort Type column
To reproduce: Use "Choose columns" to add the "Type" column to a Defined View (I created a new View for this purpose). Return to the file panel and display that Defined View. Left-click the "Type" column label to sort the column. Salamander does not respond. Of course a...

Re: Some productivity tips
Sorry, you misunderstood me or I wasn't clear in my writing. I do not favor abandoning keyboard support in any software. There are plenty of handicapped users who need it, or need the assistant utilities that interact with the keyboard to enable functionality. Also, there is a very clearly defined s...

Re: Some productivity tips
Hi th. JohnFredC, I guess you are suggesting that mouse gestures should be introduced into AS. I don't mean to imply that all motion/gestural paradigms could be applied to a file manager UI. Of course there are gestural behaviors (shaking, as you mention) which might be a stretch for usefulness. But...
