Copy | Options, Save as default, Options Remain Expanded

Copy (or Move) | Options, Save as default, Options dialog Remains Expanded

If you set a Copy/Move option, such as Ignore ADS, & Save those options as defaults, the Options dialog is always expanded for any further Copy/Move operations.

Don't know if that's intended, but IMO if you specifically set something, it should accept that you have done so, silently.
IOW the Options dialog should not be expanded unless you specifically expand it yourself.

It's definitely intended. The menu item to hide options also resets them, according to the idea "if you don't see them, you don't have to check their values, it's all on factory settings".

When I discovered this, I was surprised, too, but in my usage pattern, it's useful. I save custom defaults only for specific tasks and I want to be reminded that I need to unset them after I finish.

Of course that doesn't mean there's a solution that would satisfy both.

I don't like the change.
  • Just because I chose defaults different from factory defaults, I don't want to be bothered with (deflected by) all the details of the options.
  • The display style of the Options button with custom options set, strongly resembles a depressed state, which is irritating and confusing.
  • Clicking that option button in the expanded dialog gives no indication whatsoever that my default settings have been (temporarily) overridden by factory defaults (even when I just have set them in this very copy operation).
I suggest to use the Options button as a toggle only to expand/hide the options. The button then may then no longer be the proper type of control.

I think, with this approach, at least all of us three posters here could be suited.

File Comparator (Ctrl+Shift+C) likewise has an Advanced tab, also with an option to save settings, as default, yet does not behave irregularly.

I would suspect that most would want to disable ADS, by default, given efficiencies gained (in copying) by doing so.
And at the same time would not want to then always see expanded Options dialog.

(I would suspect that most have no idea what ADS even is, & even if they did what data might be "in" that stream, but that's an entirely different matter ;-).)
