Incorrect calculation of occupied space while copying

Post by crystalidea »

Windows 7 x64, salamander 2.54

1st drive - FAT32 30GB, 4.24GB free
2nd drive - exFAT 30GB, 30GB free

Copying all contents (a bunch of files/folders, Ctrl+A) from drive 1 to drive 2 results the following picture:

I believe it's not correct.

Update: in the end of copying it appeared that it's not enough space indeed. Strange

On average, what size & how many files?

For a >=32 GB drive, looks like you'll have a 128 KB cluster size with exFAT.

Might be more efficient to format the drive into two partitions, just below the 32 GB mark, so that the cluster size drops to 32 KB.

Default cluster size for NTFS, FAT, and exFAT
WinXP Pro SP3 or Win7 x86 | SS 2.54
