Filter in viewer(s)

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to filter the internal text viewer? So instead of searching for some string (or regexp), hide all lines without that string altogether. 
Similar for the database viewer: only show lines containing some text. Optionally in some specific column.
Currently I have to use external tools like Log Expert to do this, but it feels like the viewer(s) should be able to do this relatively easily.
