Maximum column width in database viewer

I use the database viewer a lot, especially for csv files and the like. The column width is automatically adjusted to the data.
It looks like it is set to the maximum occurring length. If one record has a very long value for a column, it becomes very wide.
To see all columns at once I need to make the wide column narrower, which can take many dragging actions. :(
Could the automatically determined width please have some maximum to prevent this?

+1 for some solution, not neccessarily the maximum one.

Another idea (maybe worse, let's vote :)): let there be an option to have all the columns together fit into the window (resizing one would also proportionally resize the others).

Can someone suggest the maximum, please? (Multiples of) window size, (multipes of) screen size, certain pixel size,....?

I would prefer the automatically determined width to have a maximum. For instance 250 pixels. Or around 30 characters, which depends on the font used.
It should still be possible to widen by dragging of course.
In addition, or as an alternative, it would be nice to have a way to change the column width (of the selected column) with the keyboard. :)

I have never tought of how exactly the smart mode (Ctrl+N) for the name column in the main panel works, but it works great and could be used here too.
