Is 2.53 beta 1 Not Registering salamext.dll ?
Or maybe is it using an existing earlier (Salamander) installed version?

When I run Autoruns, I see salamext.dll in a 251, 252 & a [pb] directory, but not in my 253 directory (which I have separate from where I installed the [pb]'s).

salamext.dll in 253 directory is version 1.3.1.49.
salamext.dll in [pb] directory is version 1.3.1.40.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Directory\shellex\CopyHookHandlers\AltapSalamanderVer253b1 seemingly is pointing to the [pb] version.

(I did not uninstall earlier Salamander versions when installing the newer [pb]'s or 253 beta 1.)

2.53 beta 1 (PB xx) uses salamext.dll of version 2.53 beta 1, so if you don't uninstalled it, the PB's DLL is used also in 2.53 beta 1. You can delete 2.53B1 key from registry and then run 2.53 beta 1, it will register as expected. We did not want to make different version of salamext.dll for every PB version, it's not necessary.
