Some Applications Slow To Release

Just to point out, that Some Applications are Slow To Release from memory, possibly resulting in unexpected "errors" when performing operations in Salamander.

One in particular: Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder v1.51

Extract file.
Run.

(Using Process Explorer) you'll notice a keyfinder.exe process, then also a secondary findkey.exe process.

Close the program.

The UI disappears immediately.

First the secondary findkey.exe process exits.
Then the keyfinder.exe process itself exits.

Though it could be a number of seconds before the keyfinder.exe process actually releases.

During this time, if you attempted to overwrite the keyfinder.exe program (with another version), it would fail.
Similarly, if you attempted to delete the directory keyfinder.exe was contained in, it too would fail.

Latest Mozilla Thunderbird is another example (on my computer). It's pretty standard behavior.

This happens also with MS Outlook. You see the UI to close, but the application is still closing on background. This is a standard behavior.

Just a bit of an update (which I should have included initially) ...

On a (direct) delete, the error message received is: Error:(5) Access is denied.

On an overwrite situation, the error message received is: Error:(32) The process cannot access the file because it is being using by another process.

On a (Recycle Bin) delete, the (Windows) error message received is: Error Deleting File or Folder: Cannot delete keyfinder: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not in use.

If you want to know what process locks a certain filer/directory,then install the Unlocker. Its a nice tool which can helpt to solve such lock problems.

In this case, these are temporary, transient "locks".
Something like Unlocker or OpenedFilesView may catch it, if you run it at an appropriate time.

And my post was just a "Just to point out" post, to just bring to light - for situations where people may run into something like this, thinking it is a problem with Salamander. Perhaps like this post, deleteing files directly in vista 64.

:-).
