"Listing path "xxx", press the ESC key to cancel..."

Post by leokapo »

Hi,

Since some time I get the message "Listing path "xxx", press the ESC key to cancel ..." when I open a network directory in Salamander 2.52.

The message just sits there, pressing ESC (multiple times) makes no difference whatsoever. Restarting Salamander helps, but is there better way to avoid this?

Kind Regards.

I'm getting this message on my computer while working with Linux/Samba network drive (running in VMWare). In my case there must be some problem in the Samba configuration because the network drive is really inaccessible for several seconds. After a few seconds it works fine.

It would probably be the same problem and something is wrong with your network connection?

You can try to turn off Use automatic refresh option in Options > Configuration > Drives > Network drives, but it will only hide the real problem.

Thanks for the quick reply. My network drives are on a NAS. The drives in the NAS are set to hibernate after 10 minutes of inactivity. So they may indeed not be accessible when Salamander starts displaying the message. However after some 10 seconds, they become accessible, but the message just hangs there.
Restarting Salamander confirms they are accessible, as there is no message then. I'll follow your suggestions to change the config settings, also as I believe there is not an actual problem to mask.

Kind Regards.

You can try to "break" frozen instance of Salamander. Start second instance and from menu Help > Task List break the frozen instance. Dialog box with bug report should be displayed. Please send it to my email jan.rysavy@altap.cz.

It's very unlikely we will be able to do something with this problem. Windows API is locked (probably in some critical section or on some long timeout) and doesn't return control to Salamander. It could be problem in your network drivers, in NAS network layer implementation, etc.
