I would love to have more than two panels. Wouldn't you?

Not at all! (assuming you are talking about file pannels as the existing ones. Folder trees, preview panes, ..., related to one of the two existing pannels might be useful).

But maybe I am to narrowminded, so explain, please, how this would benefit me and how things would work with more panes.

In my oppinion this would render Salamander unintuitive to the point of not useful anymore. How should all those main commands work which now use the other pannel as its target?

I could think of a file manager with three panes, a center pane and two side panes (similar to a 3-way merge program), but this would provide a benefit for only very rare cases.

multiple panels with bookmarks and its managing would be great. two panel plus the simple bookmarks are definitely not enough. please see "krusader".

How about the tab page mechanizm? Leaving the two panels in place as they are adding every panel several tab pages woud be enoguh! Am I right or right?
