Multi-part 7-zip archives...

Post by zektor »

Before I begin, I must say that Salamander is bar none the best dual pane file manager I have ever used...and I am coming from Windows Commander and Norton before that :) I love it and recently registered your fine product. I *live* in the application basically :)

Ok, on toa small issue I am having. I am currently moving various archives over to the 7z format since it has excellent compression and is a great zip/rar replacement. I previously had some very large multi part archives in rar format (4.37GB each...DVD size) that were able to open fine in the file manager by simply double clicking on the first part of the archive. 7-zip also has the feature of creating multi-part archives in pretty much the same way, and they open fine with 7-zip by selecting the first file of the archive as you would with Winrar. BUT, Servant Salamander is having an issue (or perhaps the plugin?) with reading these multi-part archives.

I am not sure if it has to do with the nature of the size of the archive (I did not test creating smaller multi-part 7z archives), but as I said before this is not a problem that is exhibited in the official 7-zip release...or at least the latest version I am using (4.60 beta). Can this issue be looked in to?

Other than that, I have found no real show stoppers. It is an excellent and stable application that will stick with me for as long as I use a computer :)

Thank you for the bug report. We plan to update the 7-Zip plugin to support latest changes in 7-Zip application. It should help. We are waiting for our colleague right now.
