Shortcut for Quick Rename in the actual line (no new window)

For ages I've been looking for a shortcut to do a Quick Rename without opening the Quick Rename window.
I want to rename the file in the actual line (no change of position, no eye movement necessary).
I don't want the Quick Rename window to pop up.
AFAIK, the only way to achieve this is to click on the file name.
But I _do not_ want to use my mouse.

Has this shortcut been implemented yet?
Does anybody have a solution?

If not, can you please implement a shortcut for this?

Configuration > Panels > Rename by slowly clicking the name twice

But you have to use mouse once. :(

I think F2 dialog isn't so bad and so work slowing.

This F2-popup window is not bad for me, ..yes sometimes if i come back from
other file manger (sorry Jan :D ) it wondering me a lil bit for the first times :D

But we have the advantage to use older names to modify and reuse (to bad i didn't use that.)

My feature / improvement request would be
to highlight the hole name (in the "F2 popup dialog") without the DOT and the extansion.

i.e. highlight the
 _____________
| NamePart.ext |

only.

I gues the most times we rename the name part only
and let the extension be the same ?

I'd want the seamless version too, like the thread author... Poll?

Thanks for all replies, fellow SS Users!

So there seems to be no solution yet....
Dear SS Team: Could you please implement a shortcut for this?

Thanks a bundle!

Sorry, but I don't understand your problem: What's wrong with the pop up window? :?

@ KNUT:

I prefer to look at exactly the same position when changing a file name.
The Quick Rename window opens at a different position.
Frequent eye movement is tiresome when renaming lots of files (in a process that is too complex to be automated).
Furthermore, when renaming in the actual line I can determine font and font size. This is not possible in the Quick Rename window.
Hope this serves as a little explanation

Yep - thanks :) Here's my Tip for a workaround: Use the Renamer-Plug:
- Mark all the files to rename
- Start the Renamer Plug-In (via menu or CTRL+SHIFT+R)
- Select the "Manual mode" (ALT+L)
- Know you've your files in a smart list to edit the names.
- Customize the display Font under: Options - Advanced
Perhaps this helps... (or is it actually better than your desired feature.... )

Wow. Neue Perspektiven eröffnen sich!

Thanks very much for that incredible hint.
How come I've ignored the Renamer Plug-In for so long ... ?

Best wishes

And even
-you can set your favorite text editor in Options - Advanced
-and by pressing F4 in manual mode edit your filenames in your editor

Or if you want automatic rename. Press F5 in manual mode and filter your filnames through a shell command. (the old names are pushed to stdin of the colon you write and the new are read from stdout).

Mind-boggling!

....and I really thought I knew this program.
....and I really thought I was productive.
....and I really thought I was effective.

You live and you learn.
Thanks, guys!
