no there are none, Unicode is simply not supported by Salamander and if you searched for the word unicode, you would get many results that say its not supported and it is unlikely that it will ever be. The developers have set Salamander free and have no more time for further development. There might be some fixes if bugs appear but thats all.
There is a option for Code Page Conversion Tables, but thats only for Central Europe, Cyrilic or Western Europe and is used for Viewers and code page convert plugin.
Options > Configuration > Language > Code page conversion tables

Unicode support itself is a VERY complicated and complex thing and its not easy to implement.

If the Unicode support will take longer,
can Altap open source the basic salamander and let community build features?

On top of that they can sell the enhanced functionality/plugins as paid option.

They finally got the project on Github under Open Salamander name, but even provisional Unicode support is still missing (not even mentioning compiled executables)

Oh, thats very great. Thank you for that information.

EDIT: But there doesn't seem to be that much going on.

Most work is done on the source code comment translation from Czech to English.

I just stumbled onto AS and I like it. I would really like to have this added to AS. I've been adding all my CD's into my music server, and I found out that the world music databases use a lot of non standard Unicode Symbols. So sorting through my music catalog i can't use AS. (bummer) More then that, I's really sad to see this post originally started back in 2015/2016 and nothing has been done that I know of...

If any one knows of a plugin or work around to this and getting AS to use Unicode please respond...

Thanks,

James.

To my understanding, several forks (see https://github.com/OpenSalamander/salamander/forks) have working Unicode support, e.g. Sally or Samandarin

Samandarin = work good

Visually, Red Salamander bears no resemblance to the original product; it is closer to Total Commander or Double Commander—it looks completely different! Samadarin and Sally, on the other hand, look just like the original Altap Salamander—the one everyone here is used to and loves.

Thank you for the feedback @liquidator

differences seems not obvious for me

But yes this is a new product and there is a lot of other differences
If you want to spend sometime to explain what you dislike (here or in MP) will be helpful

Here is my first impression from a quick look:Visually, the fonts are different, with wider horizontal spacing and huge vertical gaps—personally, this reminds me of Double Commander. In simple terms, it is an unfamiliar interface with fewer settings.A basic lack of settings for the necessary panels: there is no drive bar, no plugin bar, no favorite paths bar, and so on.A lack of settings for the required columns.Simply put, visually it looks more like the standard Windows 11 File Explorer ;)This kind of minimalism just didn't work for me after 25 years of using Salamander. Moreover, even though Total Commander is always available as an alternative and can do everything and adapt to anything—VISUALLY, to my perception, it has always looked worse than the original Salamander, even to this day. And if Red Salamander doesn't have a skin that looks exactly like the original Altap visually, it is already of little interest to me purely from a visual standpoint, not to mention what I described in the first two points ;)

Thanks @liquidator
your comment make sense.
  • I've got a compact settings in preferences but clearly not compact enough when activating, it will be fix :)
  • font are not the same because I'm displaying everything in DirectX with modern renderer. But perhaps I need a setting to let you bring your font and not using Segoe UI everywhere
  • for toolbar, personally I'm not very fan of toolbar, if I'm adding some what are the most important one for you ?
  • for detail view you have it in a compact way (Alt + 3 or menu Left/Right + Detailed), do you see missing information ?
Thanks again for your feedback
