Issue with FIND

Post by jcgriff2 »

I'm in a directory, want to do a search (find) in that same directory, I used to hit CTRL-F, up popped the search screen and the "Look In" directory was filled in with the current directory I was focused on.

Now, an old search directory (I assume) - "A:\sysnative.com\drivers" shows up in the "Look in" space every time I hit CTRL-F, not the current dir that I'm focused on.

Any idea where this is in the registry so that I can delete it and try anew?

Any ideas at all?

I am running v3.08 x64. Thank you.

Sincerely,

John

Re: Issue with FIND

I found -

reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 3.08\Configuration\Look In History

It contains 30 lines of history, which I assume is normal.

I also found -

reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 3.08\Configuration\Find Options\2\LookIn - a SZ key containing the name of the directory in post #1.

And - reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 3.08\Configuration\Find Options\1

But still have no idea why "Look In" won't populate with the current screen-focused directory.

Does/did that drive/path exist?

Odd I have no sub-keys to \Find Options\?

> \Look In History

Nothing in there on my end.
But then I don't save settings on exit - if that makes a difference?

Ah...

Find dialog
Options
Manage...

Settings Manager -> Load this setting when the Find dialog is opened

Yes, it does exist and is the #1 mostly used directory on my system.

I'll test by emptying mine out.

I do save configuration on exit.

Where is this located, please? Where is "options"?

I don't see it anywhere.

Thank you very much for your help here. I've used Altap Salamander in lieu of Windows Explorer for 10 years now and don't know what I did/what happened to screw up my FIND.

Sincerely,

John

I just found what you were talking about.

Open up a FIND dialogue box, select "Options", select "Manage"

The next screen had the a:\sysnative\drivers listed 2x and the box at the bottom "Load this setting when the Find dialog is opened" was checked.

I un-checked the box and FIND worked normally again. However, a subsequent FIND brought back the a:\sysnative\drivers directory.

So I went back into the MANAGE screen and deleted the two a:\sysnative\drivers entries and the bottom-left box then greyed out.

Hopefully, this is the solution.

I still don't understand how this happened as I have never fooled with the FIND "Manage" settings.

Thank you so very much for your time and help in this matter as I have been going in circles on my own trying to fix this for months now.

Sincerely,
John

I have fooled around with this for months trying to solve my problem. I even went so far as reinstalling v3.08 several times; installing prior versions -- and they all did not work (because I checked YES to bring along the registry configuration from the "broken" 3.08).

It wasn't until your post that I ever knew there were options on the FIND screen itself. Once I found that and realized that the "Load this setting..." was checked (no idea how it got checked), it then made perfect sense to me why the same directory appeared for every FIND.
It wasn't until your post that I knew there were options on the FIND screen itself ;-).
Have you used salamander for a long time too?
My oldest Salamander (that I still have on hand) is SALAM152.ZIP, 05/27/1998, so, yes, for a little while ;-).
(Though I've got to figure that I've probably been here since Salamander 1.0?)
