How to see HTC One M8 Android phone in Salamander

Post by docfxit »

Is there a way to see the files on an HTC One M8 Android phone?

I know I can put it into Disk Drive mode to see the files on the SD card. I would like to see the files on the phone. I know the HTC Sync Manager can see the file but it is very cumbersome. It would be very nice to be able to use Salamander.

Thank you,

Thank you very much.

That does let me see the files on the phone internal storage (the SD Card storage I could see without this plugin)

It does have a couple quarks that don't stop me from working with the files.
1. One is when I navigate to a folder with nothing in it displays the root folder.

Root Folder:
Image

If I select the 100Media folder it shows me the root folder:
Image

I expected it to show me an empty folder.

2. When I see the root folder and select the G: folder. It displays the root folder. It doesn't go into the G: folder.
The same thing happens when I select the Phone folder.
When I select the 831C folder I see the folders and files on the phone.

3. The root folder shows me [invalid] for date and time.

I am happy to successfully see the files with this plugin. I am only documenting this so
1. Other people using this plugin will know what to expect.
2. Maybe Christian Ghisler (The author of WindowsMediaAudio) might decide to fix this.

I'm using Win7 Professional sp1 32bit
Windows Media Audio 2 (MP3) 1.2.
Salamander 3.01 x86

Thank you very much for a really great program.

I just updated from Salamander V2.54 to V3.04 and am having a problem listing files on my HTC EVO 4G LTE (the Sprint-specific version of the HTC One S).

With V2.54, I see the phone's internal memory (never figured out how to get to the external SD card's memory).

With V3.04, the phone lists as device D:, but with a different name (the phone's name is EVO, but Salamander lists it as "HTC Sync Manager"). When I select the phone's drive letter, the files I see in the root are not what I see if I use Explorer.

Make Files List (Ctrl+M) didn't do anything I could notice, but I was able to use the Command Line to list what I see to another drive (Access was denied when I tried listing to D:):

Why am I unable to see the actual file contents of my phone and, while we're at it, when will I be able to interact with the External SD memory?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

The files you see seem to be just some drivers and phone support software. These can be preloaded on the phone, so you can install everything without connecting to the Internet.

Do you see any differences between the accessible drives in 32-bit and in 64-bit Salamander? What option is chosen in Settings > Storage > three dots > USB connection on your phone?

The differences I see are between Salamander V2.54 and V3.04 (both 32-bit).

When I use V2.54, I see the files that are on the phone.

When I use V3.04, I see the files that I listed in the first post.

The phone's USB port is in Developer mode and has been unchanged for months.

I now understand the problem, but don't know how to fix it.

For some reason I do not understand, when I connect my phone to my computer, it comes up in Disk Drive mode when I use Salamander V2.54 and in HTC Sync Manager mode when I use V3.04 (both 32-bit and 64-bit).

I can change the setting under USB Debugging in my phone's Developer Options under Settings (for a Sprint EVO 4G LTE, a variation of the HTC ONE S), but only when the phone is connected, and there is no way to change the default setting (except to go back to using V2.54).

What has changed between V2.54 and V3.04 to cause this?

I'm still confused about what you see. What happens when you have both Salamander versions open and plug in the phone? What disk drives do you see in each of them?

Things have changed. Now, when I connect the phone to my computer, it defaults to HTC Sync Manager mode. For both V2.54 & V3.04, this is what happens when I try to use them:

If I leave the phone in HTC Sync Manager mode, I cannot connect to the phone. It lists as a drive (G, in my case), but I cannot connect to it. Windows Explorer does not even list it as a drive.

If I change the phone to Disk Drive mode, I can see the phone's files. I am in the root (SuperSU is in the root).

I am no longer seeing the other files that seemed tied to various PC operating systems.

Does that mean Salamander now shows the same drives and files as Explorer?
