PictView background color cyan gets yellow

Post by mdruiter »

I would like to report a minor issue with the PictView plugin.

Sometimes I save PNG files with only 256 colors, with transparency. When I view those with PictView, the transparent background shows as yellow, although I have the background color(s) set to cyan. This confused me. :?
For convenience I attached an example image:

I tested this with the version 3.0 beta and the issue is still there.

I can imagine that you also get the same result with Windows Photo viewer, it is because of the RBG colours in your display profile.
You can read about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939395

Well no.
First, in Salamander, it's not a Vista-only thing. It also happens in Windows 7 and XP. The issue you mention is Vista specific.
Second, every viewer I use displays the transparant background as white or transparent (white and gray blocks). I tried that now on Windows XP, using Microsoft Photo Editor, QuickTime PictureViewer, Paint, Internet Explorer, Adobe Photoshop and Windows picture and fax viewer.
As I'm using XP now, I cannot try the suggested solution, but I don't expect it to work.

Can anyone confirm my issue :?:

I tried several colors. White, black, some gray, green and yellow show okay. I can confirm at least three colors that show differently (in the attached picture). I use Salamander v2.54 on Windows 8x64 Pro.
