Feature to prevent Sleep Mode during operations

Post by altap4ever »

I couldn't find this topic as an existing feature request... Sorry if already in

Add an option to prevent to computer to go to sleep or in hibernation mode during long operations such as copying a large amount of files from an internal drive to an external disk.

Meanwhile I've found a little program called Insomnia that does the trick.

Isn't it easier to disable the sleep mode and let the application do the switch off? or manual "at" command?
( at 4:00 shutdown -s -t 0 -f )

It's also possible to try to close Salamander, which results in a message box about running operations, but it will exit once they're all finished. After that, you can use e.g. Poweroff to shut the computer down after Salamander exits. (Don't use Standby or Hibernate in combination with After a process stops, because Poweroff will repeat the action once you wake the system up again. There are workarounds for that.)

I think you got the guy wrong.
He doesn't want the pc to turn off after a Salamander's operation.
He wants the pc to do not turn off while the operation.

For example, the media player Winamp does not let windows to sleep while you listen/watch to something.
Salamander should be able to do not let windows to sleep while copying files.

And I think it is already able to do that, doesn't it?
What you waiting for?

When I read your post, I thought so, too, for a while. But then I saw that the both responders got the meaning right, but SelfMan just wanted to try a different approach, which is the point I added my post. Unfortunately, the original poster didn't say if that approach was valid in his case.

I'm not sure about that. My guess is that Salamander doesn't take any such precautions. Windows itself could be smart enough not to go to sleep while there's a lot of disk activity, but again, that's just my guess.
