Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows
Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows
Hi there,
the copy-speed with Salamander to a mounted Network Share is half of the speed compared with Windows Explorer. I copied the same file to the same share with Salamander and Windows Explorer (please look at the pictures). Why is there such a huge difference?

Yes, we know about this problem. We will switch from our current copy routine to standard Windows copy function. We will get exactly same transfer speeds as we know from Windows Explorer.

Will there be an update or patch available?

I can't wait for the new version. I also noticed the slow copy speed and always use the Explroer to copy data.

Re: Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows
Just upgraded to Win 7 64-bit yesterday. Not only is transfer rate slow, there is a huge delay before the transfer even begins. So I'm looking forward to the new version.
Re: Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows
If you have a large directory structure that you are copying, it enumerates everything (checks for files it cannot access, invalid file names, ADS & the like) first, before it actually starts the copy.
So if it is doing that, there could be a lengthy time before the copy actually starts. Otherwise, there shouldn't be any delay, W7 or x64 or not.

Exactly, we don't know about other such problem. AS 2.54 works fine on x64 Windows.therube wrote:Otherwise, there shouldn't be any delay, W7 or x64 or not.
Please try to identify source of problem and let us know...
Re: Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows
Thank you for the replies, therube and Jan. It was indeed a large directory structure that I was copying, and it did fail to "find" one file during the enumeration process because the file was named (on purpose) with an invalid character. Other copies that I've done went quickly.
Re: Network Copy-Speed Salamander vs. Windows
... a half year is gone since my initial post. In the meantime I switched to Gigabit LAN at home and now it is much more disappointing to see the slow copy speed with Salamander. For larger files and folders I use Explorer instead of Salamander

Faster asynchronous algorithm is implemented from Altap Salamander 3.0 beta 3 (PB103).
Please test it across your networks and let us know in a new thread if you find any problems. Thank you.
