I like to suggest an other "defined view" option:

Use the other panel as preview in each case.

i.e.
- select in one panel an text file and see it in the other panel
like this => http://www.flos-freeware.ch/img/tvscr1.gif


- select in one panel an picture and see it in the other panel

Yeah, this seems to be a good idea. I vote for it too.

Quick view for text and pictures would be very very nice, I have often thought of this when using ACDSee.
