Explorer thumbnails displayed in Thumbnail View
Explorer thumbnails displayed in Thumbnail View
This is a feature already available in Explorer. It doesn't make sense to remove it. Servant Salamander's task is to add new features which I don't have in Explorer, not remove them

Re: Explorer thumbnails displayed in Thumnail View
Note only: this feature was not removed. It just was not implemented from historical reasons, see the original thread.
Maybe, Jan, it will be better if you describe "historical reasons" because solution "good" in the history may be bad now. (In the context of 64bit AS, for example.) Ok, I do not have problem with Pictview but I can not see any thumbnail preview of video files in the Salamander which is standard windows function. Is it really problem to say, the "X" works up to version "Y", but you can use "Z" after the version "Y" for using of .... Do you understand me?

Hi, I've put together simple plugin which displays Explorer Thumbnails in Salamander.
I tested it under WinXP and Win2k and found no problems. Although there may be faulty Shell extensions which will cause problems. Let me know of any problems in the plugin's thread.
BTW: PictView is superior to this simple plugin

I guess this is because your plugin uses shell extensions to generate the thumbnails real-time while PictView uses already existing thumbnails located in thumbs.db and ADS, right?zarevak wrote:Hi, I've put together simple plugin which displays Explorer Thumbnails in Salamander.

What part are you referring to? PictView is superior because it produces slightly better quality thumbnails and supports rectangular images. My plugin always produces squared images with white (Window color) background. And yes, it uses Shell Extensions - currently without any caching on plugin's side.Jan Patera wrote:I guess this is because your plugin uses shell extensions to generate the thumbnails real-time while PictView uses already existing thumbnails located in thumbs.db and ADS, right?zarevak wrote:Hi, I've put together simple plugin which displays Explorer Thumbnails in Salamander.

And PictView is mainly Viewer plugin - no competition here
Thanks I see video files thumbnails on Vista64 correct.zarevak wrote:Hi, I've put together simple plugin which displays Explorer Thumbnails in Salamander.
I have only one problem - in PC aren't codecs
I use VLC media player - this software don't use windows codecs.
zarevak, thank you very much!!!
Really!
This is absolutely fantastic, and is the kind of answer I expected from Jan... Obviously there is a conflict of interest for him
Altap Salamander has just improved it's value to me by 20%!!!
Again, thank you very much!
(There is room for improvement if you feel like it, but it does just what I needed. Perfect!)

Haha. You wanted Explorer Thumbnails so you've got Explorer Thumbnails...k0nelupy wrote:I have only one problem - in PC aren't codecs
If Explorer doesn't show the thumbnails then this plugin won't display them either. Buf let me know if you see thumbnails in Explorer and not in Salamander when using this plugin.
(Note: I'm not able to support 64bit Thumbnail Shell Extensions in any way until Salamander is 64bit as well...)
You know, I accept donations But your money will be better spent on buying PictViewplino wrote:zarevak, thank you very much!!!

Plino, please understand a few things:plino wrote:This is absolutely fantastic, and is the kind of answer I expected from Jan... Obviously there is a conflict of interest for him
1) This is official support forum for Altap Salamander. When we will feel something is in conflict with our interest, we can delete it.
2) When some feature is not implemented in Salamander, it doesn't mean we do not want to implement it. Our resources are limited.
3) You cannot expect we will implement each feature that you are asking for. Our todo list is way to long and we have some priorities.
4) We are really happy for every new plugin even if it will be open source / freeware viewer.
I'm locking this thread, please continue in http://forum.altap.cz/viewtopic.php?t=2947
