Copy/Move Delay Timer

Post by Loaddowner »

Hello!

Since I stared using Altap Salamander, mainly because I can now use queues for copying/moving files, I would like to see something that gives the opportunity to set a timer for a copy/move process to start.

I know it's probably too much to ask for a plugin that monitors other copy/move processes, done by Windows, and waits for them to finish before the salamander processes start, but a delay timer would be very useful! After all.. Windows shows how much time is remaining.. in windows minutes.. ok... But that gives you SOME opportunity to scheduele a salamander copy/move proces.

Like.. "Start process in 1/5/10/30/x minutes..."

That way you wouldn't have to worry about fragmented disks and it would probably give me some more good night's rest too ;)

Thx!

with copy (Windows Explorer, cmd, or Salamander) you don't have to worry about fragmentation (a move to another volume is just a copy followed by a delete, a move on the same volume does not move any file contents at all). Even Windows is sensitive enough to tell the system how much data there will be copied and the system allocates disk blocks in advance, according to what the system consideres to be appropriate. This basically does lead to a result for simultaneous copies equivalent to sequential copies.

This statement is not ment to turn down your request, just to ease your anxiety.

(Web downloads are a different story. There it really pays (fragment ways) to sequentialise.)

thx for your remark! I didn't know that..

But what I mean is that a timer ability would surely make things faster than it would be with simultanious copies or moves..

grtz!
