Plugins SDK

When will you publish the SDK? SS lack many plugins :(
Will be there a support for Total Commander plugins?

We will decide during the next year. SDK must be documented before we will be able to release it. Current Czech comments must be translated to English, a starter guide should be written, and existing Demonstration plugin should by polished.

Final Servant Salamander 2.5 is the highest priority for us. Sorry for bad news.
Will be there a support for Total Commander plugins?
We do not plan to change existing plugin interface.

The TC plugins are incredibly useful and there are a "million" of them...

A Salamander plugin interface which had the TC plugin specs as a subset would be a welcome contribution to the Salamander toolset.

TC supports packer plugins, file system plugins, lister plugins, and column plugins (called "content" plugins) for custom columns...

I don't remember very well, but, seemed to me, there is plugin for TC that allows to use some FAR plugins with TC.
Probably, somebody can write the same plugin to provide connectivity TC plugins with SS.

Hello,

i was asking for the plugin interface since one of the first beta versions (i mean since the sdk was announced). Sure there may be several changes in the interface, but i have several ideas since then and i cannot create the plugins since i have no sdk. I would like to get the czech sdk as it is now for testing and getting a rough start. that would be real great.

also the sdk did held me off to buy servant salamander till now. also i like it very much, but i can only test it. i want to develop for it.

thanks for hearing me.

sincerly, murphy
Mike

Seconded. Same reasons. A Plugin SDK is a must.

I also would buy Version 2.5 if a SDK is available.

Have a look at
http://www.totalcmd.net/ for available plugins
for TC.

Please release a SDK with 2.5.

Here another vote for an SDK release.

The Forum is a very nice place to talk about SS. With an SDK the community would even be able to code for it.

Altap, how about investing a minimum amount of time to release an alpha version of the SDK (more or less as is). I am pretty confident that some interested programmers like murphy will check it out and at least help you to identify what is most needed to make it work.
Shove out the alpha SDK, open up another forum and lets find out what happens. Linus T. has created an OS that way

Hi,

I also would like to see a SDK released soon - no matter if there is doc or not (ALTAP could release some rough Plugin-Samples and release the SDK as a "Pre-Alpha" or somewhat).

So I could write one/some plugins I'm not really missing but would be nice to have:

CVS-Plugin
Subversion-Plugin
COPY/MOVE/DELETE via RSync
Ext2/Ext3-Filesystem Plugin
Compare two selected files

Esp. COPY/MOVE via rsync would be nice to have....

Bye,

Hi,

Can't you use TortoiseCVS and TortoiseSVN shell extensions? I use them frequently in SS without any problem.
knick wrote: Compare two selected files
Already in SS: plugin File Comparator. Default hotkey for Compare Files... is Ctrl+Shif+C
And there thread about Using external compare/merge tool on two selected files.
 More about New Left/Right File/Dir arguments in User Menu in 2.5 RC1

Ok, these are missing :(

So we are here again.
No SDK for about a half year later after the first post.
Or after 2.0.

So.....will you ever release it ?

I have no problem to read source, even the comments are in czech language.

I trialing SS. SS is great.
But this makes me sick. I for sure can reverse engineer
SS to make the things possible il need but hey....
My time is limited.
I'd would rather develop things with an offical SDK.

But this would't happen.
So sad..... :(

My guess about this is that the Altap guys are a (very) few smart programmers with (perhaps?)... day jobs!

If you were writing a file manager to compete with the likes of TC or SC or Dopus, wouldn't that be a full-time job? Creating something so sophisticated on nights and weekends takes much longer, especially at the level of quality Salamander exhibits.

SS is created not on weekends, it's regular "day job" (with the rest of Altap activities).

Of course, SS is a great product which takes a little bit longer than a few weekends. But hey, there are sooo many things we can add with a plugin-SDK. But without....

TC would be totally dead without one.
A grappy user interface which wasn't polished about years.
But theres a community behind it, a SDK, users who develop and bring the whole product to the next level.
TC without plugins is nothing. But with them it's great.

SS is great, even without Plugins.
But for me, i would'nt buy it without a SDK.
I'm trialing all new versions as long as i can, but
i will not buy it before a SDK is out. Period.
