I have take a try to make a work around to make Salamander portable:

I have wrote a little AutoIt script which
wrotes the current WorkingDir (that's where SALAMAND.exe and SalaPortable.exe is in)
into a environment variable 'SalaPath'
and starts then SALAMAND.exe.
Unter 'user menu' i have edited my paths e.g. from
H:\Tools\Servant Salamander 2.5 beta 11\Plugins\CSDiff\CSDiff.exe
to
$[SalaPath]\Plugins\CSDiff\CSDiff.exe

So i can start Sala from an USB-Stick and have my path kindly relative.
Too bad i must import the registry settings... i have to take care of the settings on the foreign PC.
(Can't await the salamand.INI :D)

If you want you can use the compiled exe or the AutoIt script on your own risk.
It's 'OpenSource' For an copy see the link below....

If you have 'suggestion for improvement', comments or questions
or want more info's please take a look >on my side 'SalaPortable' at DonationCoder.com<

 Just find this by browsing altap.cz. I didn't have seen this in the download readme or the mail.

Servant Salamander 2.5 RC1 was released on April 27, 2006:
# Servant Salamander core:
Small step to Servant Salamander portability:
User Menu, Viewers, Editors, External Archivers
has a new path variables $(SalDir), $(WinDir), $(SysDir).
You can use "..": "$(SalDir)..\viewer\viewer.exe".

Thank you SalaTeam. That's great ! :D

P.S.
This AutoIt script above is now obsolete,... no longer needed
