Duplicating Configuration

Post by jadag »

Hi,

I have a registerd version Salamander 2.52 in one folder and I have Salamander 2.53 (beta 1) in another folder.
When I installed 2.53 I was asked if I wanted to use the configurations from 2.52. I said yes and it copied my set-up across.
I have since made an extensive "user menu" on 2.53.

Can I copy the configutation from 2.53 to 2.52? If so how?

Thanks - Tony

Hi Tony, backup your registry key (using Altap Salamander Registry plugin)
reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.52\User Menu
and overwrite it with
reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.53 beta 1\User Menu

Do it with AS 2.53 beta 1 so 2.52 configuration is not overwritten on AS exit.

Hi Jan,

Can you guide me through the procedure to overwrite;
reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.52\User Menu
with
reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.53 beta 1\User Menu
using AS 2.53 as I haven't done this kind of thing before

Thanks - Tony

  1. Make sure no instances of AS are running and start AS 2.53b1.
  2. Copy this path into the clipboard: reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.52\User Menu
  3. Go to the left panel in AS and press Ctrl+V. The left panel should now show some folders named 1, 2, 3 and so on.
  4. Copy the other path into the clipboard: reg:\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.53 beta 1\User Menu
  5. Go to the right panel in AS and press Ctrl+V. The right panel should now again show folders with similar names, but there should be more of them than in the left panel.
  6. Select all folders in the LEFT panel and delete them (don't try to delete (Default), it can't be done).
  7. Select all folders in the RIGHT panel and copy them to the LEFT panel.
  8. Close AS, start a new instance of AS 2.52.
  9. Enjoy.

1 - Export the ALtap registry you want to duplicate by selecting Options | Export Configuration

2 - Using a good text editor like Notepad2, edit the configuration registry file you just exported from Altap Salamander.
Replace - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.52\
With - HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.53 beta 1\

3 - Save the file and double click on the reg file. You should now have another registry entry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Altap\Altap Salamander 2.53 beta 1\
