No, it is under big internal reconstruction and cannot be released neither like beta version. When we have something to show, we will release preview build version in EAP.

Well, coding Unicode support for 10+ years in a file manager may sound a little strange ... but you're rude, mumajs

Please note we are not working ten years on the Unicode support.

Early request for Unicode goes back to Nov/Dec 2005 but due to solving bugs/performance issues and other requested functionalities having higher priorities which were voted by users work on Unicode only started recently (last year i believe). Unfortunately the number of people who desperately wanted Unicode implemented was in the minority.

What's going on guys, are you writing a Unicode implementation from absolute scratch? isn't there any reusable code out-there that you can use?

Most (if not all) decent programs now fully support unicode so what is so different/difficult about doing it in Salamander?

Are you using a language that doesn't support it? - http://unicodebook.readthedocs.io/progr ... uages.html

The problem is obviously in rewriting large code base written in char to wchar_t. Though personally I don't see a BIG deal in that, considering the time already passed...

Petr Solin wrote: 03 Apr 2018, 09:18 Unicode is more complicated than expected (see troubles with basic support for RTL texts above). Plus everything complicated by support for long paths (32k chars = small stack for recursions, too long text of all error messages with included paths, etc.). Plus GDPR, taxes and other bureaucracy. I do not expect we will have preview version earlier than on late autumn.
Jan Rysavy wrote: 22 Mar 2018, 09:34 unfortunately running small company in Czech Republic and EU is time consuming nowadays. There are layers and layers of administrative work, ongoing law changes, latest was EET implementation, changes at PayPal, Paymill, MOSS scheme, etc. We really hate it :(

We are migrating Salamander code base to the Unicode and working on High DPI support right now.
I think the issue here is a lot of administrative work that's taking a large chunk of their time. Anyway have some patience and we might see a much anticipated preview version this year.

We are still working on it, but it goes slowly. We had to solve GDPR in our internal software for orders processing and anononymize private data in old orders (since 2001). It's still not possible to release any new version.

What is your opinion? Is the cake a lie? Or is the salamander still alive? :?:

My guess is that the developers try to focus on the programming side without any interruptions. The codebase is huge and it does take time to write tests and rewrite the code to be in unicode.
