Excluding specific directories when copying

I have these source code hierarchies on my hard disk that I want to copy over to a backup device. Because the sources are checked into subversion, I have a folder called ".svn" on every level of the hierarchy. When copying, I would like to exclude these folders.

I tried using "*.*|.svn" as the mask, but this didn't work. How do I exclude all folders with the name ".svn" from copying?
