Portable version of Salamander?

Is there a portable version of Salamander available? I have a license for Salamander and use it both at home and work. However, at work my access rights don't allow Salamander to save its configuration to the registry. A portable version that saved configuration info to a local file would be great.

Thanks,

If you want to make Salamander kinda portable, there are several threads on that topic here, just search for 'portable'.

Unfortunately, if you can't even save the configuration to registry (as opposed to, say, having the registry reset every time you log in), which is probably gonna break any of the methods mentioned in those threads, you're gonna have to export the configuration manually every time you change something and then let Salamander load the configuration from the exported file. I'm not even sure if it will work for you (since the configuration seems tightly bound to the registry), but it's worth a shot. You can read more about this feature in Salamander Help topics on configuring/customizing and command line parameters.

I was very much surprised if any of those methods would work, especially as there is no way to read a configuration into Salamander directly. The saved configuration files are .reg files, and they are loaded by importing them into the registry. (Even Salamander's command line parameter does it thus).

If you are not even allowed to write to your own user hive, I doubt you are allowed to run any SW that's not provided and approved by your company on the company's machines at all. If you are allowed, then ask your IT department to give you access to that one registry key you need to write to (See Ether's second link).

All this said, a portable version was really nice to have.
