Could you provide links to requested open source projects?

I haven't used them myself, but a search showed SparkleShare or ownCloud.

We have added support for Google Drive, Dropbox, and MS SkyDrive. If you are using any of these services, their items are displayed in Change Drive menu and Drive bar, so you can change path in panel to their local folder by a single click. These new items are optional, you can disable them in configuration page Change Drive Menu and Drive Bar / Cloud Storage Services.

If you want to see item for MS SkyDrive (also in Windows Explorer), you need to install free SkyDrive desktop app even on Windows 8 where SkyDrive is a part of operating system (see Start menu).

It will be available in next version.

Given the shear number of these types of services, is there something generic that would work for all?
Or could our support be modular, where specific services are supported by default, & more could be customized, added in later.

(I mentioned CarotDAV earlier & now, Duplicati: is a free backup client that securely stores encrypted, incremental, compressed backups on cloud storage services and remote file servers. It works with Amazon S3, Windows Live SkyDrive, Google Drive (Google Docs), Rackspace Cloud Files or WebDAV, SSH, FTP (and many more).)
