Technically, they don't, but in practice, they do considering how few resources Altap devs have.

Pleace do not change UI design :!:
It is perfect by now. Simple and clear.

Don't worry, we are thinking for example about update of menu (see Altap Salamander menu vs Windows 7/8 menu), toolbars, detailed mode columns header, etc.

Just update old Windows 2000 look to something more actual. Do you still use Windows 2000 or 95? It think no...

Jan, until you implement more important features (e.g., Unicode support, extracting files from an archive to an FTP panel), please don't spend time even thinking about changing UI!

Don't underestimate software UI. When I can choose, I'm using modern software instead of 15 year old looking. And two panel file managers is really crowded software segment, there is always another option.

Jan Rysavy wrote:For Salamander UI update we should probably target Windows 7/8 look.
I'm no expert, but couldn't Salamander adhere to the selected Windows theme? Classic on 2000, Luna on XP, Aero on Vista/7/8?

After putting some thought in my proposal, I realized that Salamander probably has some custom widgets that can't easily benefit from Windows theming. I also noticed that every single application on my desktop looks different(*). I guess I should be glad that Salamander's look is just a bit old and not completely arbitrary.

*) Pidgin (GTK), Skype (custom HTML/VB stuff), Snarl (Melon, inspired by Apple), Firefox and Thunderbird (XUL, inspired by Apple, even the two don't look the same), Nokia Suite (Qt, but completely custom look), LibreOffice (inspired by MS Office), Salamander (native Windows with old colors), KeePass (WinForms, some custom widgets), Opera (partially custom look), SQLyog (native Windows, but partially skinned), SciTE (native Windows, some custom widgets), Synergy (Qt) ... Overall, it seems like (apart from Windows Explorer) Qt looks the most Windows-like on my Windows 7 with the non-transparent Basic theme.

Call me retro - but like many other posted. I like the current simple/intuitive icons.

But I'm more of a function over form.
