Extract xz archives

I have found the xz compression format to be unsupported.

When I associate the .xz extension with the 7-Zip plugin, it says:
Unsupported or unrecognized archive type.
The archive file may have been heavily damaged.
Similarly, the TAR plugin says:
Archive format not recognised or not supported.
I would not expect xz files to be a problem, as 7Zip itself supports xz archives ever since 2009.

Is there any way to make it work?

What if you set xz.exe (or even 7zip.exe) as an External Archiver (Options | Configuration | Archivers) to handle .xz ?

(xz is not one that I've used before - that I'm aware of. Though I did have a version, circa 2011, from an "Ultimate Boot Disk". So the first file I picked to compress, text listing, 13 MB, of an old Windows Registry, compressed down to 800 KB, & I'm thinking that can't be right! But then I decompressed it & it compared, so it was right. So then I threw 7zip to the same file & it too compressed down to 800 KB, so it just happened to be the random file I picked offered great compressiblity <sp>.

And yes, 7zip does support xz format.)

We are thinking about supporting all archive formats included in standalone 7-Zip. Now only 7-Zip format is supported by 7-Zip plugin.

.. some (many) years later ..

I found that tar.xz still is not supported. What about this support?

Complete 7-Zip library is included in latest Salamander releases. We need to make another step and enable available formats such as XZ.
