An request to improve salamander:
While copy/moving files
it would be nice to
automaticly rename new files
if the name already exist
in the destination folder.
I think about an new button
in the copy/move dialog like [Rename]
Confirm File Overwrite
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Overwrite
With
[Yes] _ [All] _ [Skip] _ [Skip All] _ [Cancel] _ [Rename]
-----------------------------------------------------------------
and an new check box in the options.
The renaming could be simple (for manually modify later)
like
file.txt
file_00001.txt
or even
file.txt_00001
if this is easier to implement.
This would be usefull for merging folders.
Good would be an option to choose the renaming pattern like
( ) add _##### at the end of the double file
( ) put _##### at the front of the double file
The first option is for to sort selfsame files next to each other.
The second is for to put the double files at top of all others for to see what happend at easy.
What do you think about such a feature?
Automaticly rename doubles by copy/move

A user modifiable schema for the renaming would be great.
Plus, it would be great if dragging a file into it's own panel (ie, just moving it to a blank area in the same panel) would automatically generate a duplicate named according to the default schema.
SpeedCommander already has this very useful functionality.

Re: Automaticly rename doubles by copy/move
I support this request. But I would also add a [Rename All] option:AbteriX wrote:

This user modifiable schema should also work with any other way to duplicate a file (e.g. CTRL+C, CRTL+V). It is annoying that SS (or Windows?) add "Copy of" at the beginning of the filename. In large directories I have to scroll up to access the file. IMHO a (definable) suffix would be much better. Then the copy will sit right next to the original.JohnFredC wrote: A user modifiable schema for the renaming would be great.

The schema could default to "Copy of " at the beginning to help users coming from WinEx as long as it can be freely changed to any string and moved to the end (before the file extension).
