Things are progressing slowly but steadily. I'm a bit in doubt with what do to with:

1. Shortcuts. Some of the combinations are not possible in the as the characters isn't there. What do I do?

2. Text width problems. For example the "Compare directory" form. The text "Comparing" becomes "Sammenligner" and because the label is right aligned, the first characters are missing. I have had problems finding an alternative word for "Sammenligner" and can't shorten it. I guess I'll just have to make text fit, right?

3. Another text "Send bug Report". The capital R looks nice but isn't correct in Danish. OK to use small characters whenever this occurs (in this case the text would end up being "fejlrapport")?

Finally I'd really like a "global search and replace" for all the "Cancel" -> "Annuller" and likes. No big problem though. I have fixed that and the language code using UltraEdit.

OK, thanks for working on it!

ad 1) I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you mean hotkeys in dialogs, you need not to make the same hotkeys as in English version, just choose some character from translated text.

ad 2) please use Dialog Layout Editor, see How to translate and How to use Dialog Layout Editor sections in readme.txt file laying in the same directory as altaptrl.exe:

Code: Select all

Double click dialog in Navigator or Preview window to open it in Dialog
Layout Editor (also Ctrl+L). Editing is described in following section
"How to use Dialog Layout Editor".

Code: Select all

If you don't see outlines for all controls (editboxes, static texts, icons,
comboboxes, etc.), turn it on by pressing O key. Controls with clipped texts
(text is not fully visible due to small size of control) have red color of
outline, controls with sufficient size has blue outline. To select control
use Tab key or mouse, to select more controls use mouse while holding Shift
key. To move or resize controls use mouse or arrow keys. For advanced layout
commands see menu Position and Resize. Especially useful is command
Size to Content (S key), it sets width of all selected static texts,
checkboxes, and radio buttons according to contained text. We recommend to
select all controls (Ctrl+A) and use Size to Content (S key) before all other
changes to dialog layout. Use Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y) commands to
revert or repeat your changes. See also following section "Dialog Layout
Editor Keyboard Shortcuts".
ad 3) Yes, use lower case if it is OK in Danish.

Search and replace: you can export translation to .slt file which is UTF8 text file, then make all replaces, then import it back to Altap Translator, see batches !export_slt.bat and !import_slt.bat.

Stumbled over a small thing. The ctrl-f7 case modifier. Apart from the fact that there isn't really a a Danish term for "change case", I can't see the difference between IDC_PARTMIXEDCASE and IDC_CAPITALIZE ("&Versaler (første bogstav i ord stort, resten små)" and "Blandet tekst". Tried different things but they act the same.

I assume IDC_PARTMIXEDCASE stands for "Partially mixed case" and IDC_CAPITALIZE for "Mixed case" in the original English version. Regardless of that, if you choose to change case of the "Whole filename", the results should look like in these examples (notice the different extension case in the third and fourth example:
  • mY example File.tXt -lower case-> my example file.txt
  • mY example File.tXt -upper case-> MY EXAMPLE FILE.TXT
  • mY example File.tXt -partially mixed case-> My Example File.txt
  • mY example File.tXt -mixed case-> My Example File.Txt
Ελληνικά rulez.

I believe its clear already, thanks to Ether. If not: mixed case = capitalization = filename is split to words and every first character of every word is made upper case and the rest of each word is made lower case. Partially mixed case is mixed case for name part and lower case for extension part of filename.

Yes, thanks for the clarification. A question regarding the translated files. In some of them I seem to be having done translation in both the English and Danish columns. The English part is placed in other files so they won't clutter up anything when I ship the Danish files. Isn't that correct? If not, I'll have to redo 10 small forms - no big deal.

You should translate only Danish version. :) But if you make any changes to English version, they will be lost when you go to new version of Altap Translator, so if you don't mind, everything is OK. We will use only Danish .slt files from you. If you want some changes in English version, please send us what and why to change, we will consider it. Thanks!

No changes to the English version. I was only fumbling around.
